about

It is the mind’s eye, not the ones in our sockets, that needs training to perceive things clearly. Stevie Wonder perceives things as clearly as anyone. There have always been people who can see the better world we could be living in if we embrace love and non-violence. A lot of them wound up with a bullet in their skull, or nailed up to a tree, but that doesn’t invalidate their vision. If anything, it is a confirmation of our duty to see their vision into reality.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

Chris counts this song in and keeps a steady tempo through all the starts and stops of the chorus. I changed the arrangement for that chorus right before our rehearsal and the solid rhythm section of Chris and Julie locked it in immediately. I play a lead on this song that is the only real one on the album.

I first submitted this song to some rock playlists and they said it was too folky. So, I submitted it to some folk playlists and they said it was too rocking. This song might be forever destined to fall between the cracks but that's OK. Some of the best things in life slip between the cracks.

lyrics

To the untrained eye
It must look like
We're not doing a goddamn thing
Except getting older

But what they don't see
Are the places that we're building
In our hearts, soft and warm
To hold each other

They don't see the light that shines
Inside of you
But I do
Yes I do

This world is full of sick
And broken people
Who just want you to hurt
The way they do

And to the untrained eye
It might seem like they're winning
But if you know what you're looking at
They've already lost

'Cause they can't see the light that shines
Inside of you
But I do
Yes I do

They don't see the light that shines
